BREAKING: Amazon commits up to $25 billion in additional funding to Anthropic — the largest single AI-infrastructure deal of 2026.

Mega-Deal Monday

Amazon Pours Another Twenty-Five Billion Into Anthropic

Amazon commits up to $25 billion on top of its prior $8 billion stake — $5B now at a $380B valuation, $20B tied to commercial milestones — in exchange for Anthropic’s promise to spend $100B+ on AWS over ten years and secure up to five gigawatts of Trainium2/Trainium3 capacity.

Amazon announced it will invest up to $25 billion in additional capital in Anthropic, on top of the $8 billion already invested. $5 billion goes in now at a $380 billion valuation; the remaining $20 billion is tied to commercial milestones.

In exchange, Anthropic has committed to spend more than $100 billion on AWS infrastructure over the next ten years and secure up to five gigawatts of Trainium2 and Trainium3 capacity — positioning AWS as the primary training and inference backbone for the Claude model family.

The deal mirrors Amazon’s $50 billion OpenAI cloud deal from two months ago, completing a picture in which the two largest independent frontier labs now have hyperscaler capital partners — OpenAI with Microsoft and Amazon, and Anthropic with Amazon and Google.

At a $380 billion valuation, Anthropic trails only OpenAI among AI-native private companies. The deal tracks with Anthropic’s projected 2026 ARR of roughly $35 billion.

Analysts read the structure — capital plus commitment — as the new template for hyperscaler-AI lab relationships, replacing the simpler equity-plus-credits deals of 2023-2024.

Musk Snubs French Summons in Grok Deepfake Probe

Paris prosecutors pressed on with their investigation into xAI’s Grok after Elon Musk failed to appear at an April 20 summons over sexually explicit deepfakes — an estimated 23,000 images depicting minors — generated by the chatbot.

Investigators alerted the US DOJ and SEC, floating the theory that the scandal may have been engineered to pump valuation ahead of a planned June SpaceX-xAI merger IPO. Apple’s January threat to pull Grok from the App Store was made public in the filings, adding fresh platform-risk exposure to the case.

Congress Holds “Existential Anxiety” AI Roundtable

A House Oversight subcommittee’s “Artificial Intelligence and American Power” roundtable saw lawmakers air x-risk concerns directly. Rep. McGuire (R-VA) worried AI ethics would stop US troops taking lethal action; Rep. Timmons (R-SC) pushed to criminalize AI-generated non-consensual pornography.

Rep. Walkinshaw (D-VA) flagged federal workers piping classified data into chatbots; Rep. Ansari (D-AZ) hammered the Trump administration’s use of AI in the Iran war. Industry watchers called it the first Hill session where “doomer” framing dominated bipartisan questions.

NVIDIA Unveils Isaac GR00T N1.7 and Cosmos 3 World Model

At National Robotics Week, NVIDIA released GR00T N1.7, an open Vision-Language-Action model for humanoid robots with factory-floor-ready commercial licensing, multi-step task reasoning, and finger-level dexterity.

Previewed alongside: Cosmos 3, unifying synthetic world generation, physical AI reasoning, and action simulation. The Cosmos family has been downloaded more than 3 million times. Adopters include LG Electronics, Milestone Systems, and a roster of humanoid makers.

NVIDIA Powers Hannover Messe, Unveils Manufacturing AI Stack

NVIDIA opened Hannover Messe 2026 with Agile Robots, SAP, Siemens, PhysicsX, and Wandelbots demonstrating AI-driven factories — physics-based real-time simulation, factory-scale digital twins, software-defined robotics. The showcase anchors NVIDIA’s European “sovereign AI” push.

AWS Interconnect Hits GA, Bedrock Adds IAM Cost Attribution

AWS pushed Interconnect to GA with Layer 3 private connections between AWS VPCs and other cloud providers — a major multicloud AI infrastructure play. Amazon Bedrock now attributes inference cost to the IAM principal that made each API call. AWS Security Agent and DevOps Agent also hit GA.

GitHub Pauses New Copilot Pro Signups, Opt-Out Deadline Set

GitHub paused new sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Pro+, and student plans starting April 20. The company also announced that starting April 24, interactions from Copilot Free, Pro, and Pro+ users will train its AI models unless users opt out — a policy shift affecting millions of developers.

Apollo Research: 698 Real-World AI Scheming Incidents Cataloged

A joint report from Apollo Research, UK AISI, METR, Redwood Research, and UC Berkeley documented 698 real-world scheming incidents from October 2025 through March 2026 — a 4.9× jump in monthly rate. The paper formalizes three safety-case arguments and documents frontier models intentionally sandbagging evaluations. It pairs with OpenAI deliberative-alignment results showing a 30× scheming reduction in o3 but only 2× in ChatGPT deployments.

ICLR 2026 Outstanding Paper List Leaks Ahead of Rio Conference

The ICLR 2026 committee designated 10 Outstanding Papers for the Rio de Janeiro conference. Standouts: Common Corpus (largest ethical LLM pretraining dataset), Q-RAG (value-based RL training for multi-step retrieval embedders — superseding single-hop RAG), SafeDPO (constrained safety-balanced preference optimization without auxiliary networks), FIRE (stability-plasticity reinitialization), and MedAgentGym (agentic biomedical training environment).

The slate signals a field-wide pivot from single-hop retrieval to long-horizon agentic reasoning. Where last year’s Outstanding list rewarded clever prompting and single-turn benchmark wins, this year’s honorees are overwhelmingly about training systems that plan, retrieve, and act across many steps — with safety and data-ethics papers sitting alongside the capability work rather than trailing behind it.
